From Chimney Cleaning to Repair and Remodel, We Can Handle It AllFor local Chimney Service in Maryville, Morristown, Knoxville or the surrounding counties, Call Us |
Welcome to A-1 Chimney Maintenance. Let me take a moment to tell you a little about us. We have been servicing chimneys in Blount, Knox and the surrounding counties for over 18 years.
My philosophy for doing this is to treat each person with respect and treat everyone the way I would like to be treated. If we are going to be late, we will call and let you know. We leave your house as clean as it was when we arrived. We do not change prices in the fall just so we can make more money. An we do not use sub contractors just so we can clean more chimneys as some of our competitors do.
I feel that training and experience is very necessary and you cannot learn all you need with just a week or two of training or even a year of training. I personally go on every call and have over 18 years experience in cleaning and repairing chimneys. My assistant has over 13 years experience.
We treat each and everyone the same, no matter how large or small the job is. Our goal is for your chimney to be safe and for your complete satisfaction. We are accredited members of the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating and we intend on keeping it that way!
Thank you for your time and consideration and always remember to practice chimney safety, "Because it's where you live!"
Sincerely,
Rick Lane, Owner

People spend so much time and money in taking care of their homes but rarely give a thought to the very thing that could destroy it all in a matter of minutes. Most homeowners think that regular chimney cleaning and repair by a qualified Knoxville chimney sweeping service is only necessary if they burn a lot of wood in their wood stove or fireplace. It’s true that homes with fireplaces and wood burning stoves may need to have their chimneys cleaned more often, any chimney that is attached to a home heating source should be cleaned and inspected regularly.
For those that heat their home with any type of fuel, particularly those with fire places and wood burning stoves, Knoxville chimney sweeping companies provide an extremely important service. Calling in a professional Knoxville chimney sweeping contractor to perform regular inspections and cleanings is an important aspect in the prevention of chimney fires. When creosote, a very flammable black substance builds up in a chimney it can cause a fire. The incomplete combustion of condensed smoke causes the creosote to form and stick to the lining of the chimney. It’s possible for a chimney fire to remain within the chimney but often the intense heat and flying sparks will cause other objects to catch fire, such as the rafters and roofing materials.
You might decide to clean the chimney yourself or you could leave the job to a reliable Knoxville chimney sweeping contractor. If you’re considering doing the job yourself, you need to take a few things into consideration. Are you comfortable using a ladder or are you nervous after the first couple of steps? Do you own or can you barrow a ladder? Are you physically able to handle the job? It can be a tiring job to clean a chimney as well as dangerous, time consuming and messy. If you have any doubts, it’s better to be safe and ask a professional Knoxville chimney sweeping company to do the work for you.
As the demand for chimney sweeping services grows, so does the number of less than reputable contractors, who are in the business only to take your hard earned money. Before you decide to hire any Knoxville chimney sweeping service, it’s important that you thoroughly check them out. You need to ask for appropriate identification and documentation that you are dealing with a legitimate company. Make a call to the Better Business Bureau and ask if any complaints have ever been filed against the company.
Make certain the Knoxville chimney sweeping company or person you plan to hire is trained and qualified to do the job. An experienced chimney sweep knows it takes more than brushing out the chimney liner. Chimney sweeps often belong to trade specific organizations that demand strict adherence to member guidelines. An independent Knoxville chimney sweeping contractor may become certified by taking courses offered by an area fire safety training center.
It’s important that every Knoxville chimney sweeping company has the proper insurance. A chimney sweep should carry current liability insurance and worker’s compensation just like any other contractor. Don’t assume that your home insurance policy will provide coverage for injuries sustained by a contractor while working on your property because it probably won’t. There’s the real possibility of an accident any time you allow someone to come on your property to do a job. You might find yourself liable for any expenses if a Knoxville chimney sweeping contractor is injured and doesn’t have insurance. You shouldn’t take the chance.
The quality of the work provided by a Knoxville chimney sweeping contractor can sometimes be predetermined by looking at their prices. If the prices seem very low, you might not be getting much for your money. Call a few different chimney sweeping professionals and ask for quotes to get an idea of the average rates. If any quote seems excessively low it might be an indication of the level of service you’ll receive. Finding a reliable Knoxville chimney sweeping contractor is well worth the money you’ll invest to keep you home safe. Look for a Knoxville chimney sweeping contractor that does inspections and cleanings only if you have concerns about your budget. Large heating equipment and maintenance companies will often have their own chimney sweep and if they find any problems they may try to talk you into some expensive repairs or upgrades. It’s not to say that repairs aren’t often necessary but it should be your option to shop around for the best deal. It is the responsibility of any Knoxville chimney sweeping service to let you know if repairs are needed but it’s unethical for them to use pressure or scare tactics to convince you to let them handle the job.
Scheduling is important. Plan ahead if you want to schedule an appointment with a Knoxville chimney sweeping contractor. If you wait until the heating season to ask for an appointment you may find there is a long waiting list. You might find it difficult to schedule an appointment if you wait until the last minute since the chimney sweep may be too busy by then. Try to set up an appointment during the warmer months when the Knoxville chimney sweeping contractor is less likely to be busy.
You need to make certain your chimney is in good repair no matter the method of heating your home. If you burn wood for heat, several cleanings a year might be advisable. It’s important to have your chimney cleaned and inspected regularly, no matter how much you use it. Scheduling an annual inspection and cleaning by a reliable Knoxville chimney sweeping contractor is worth the time and effort to protect your family, your home and your possessions.

"I used A-1 Chimney Maintenance (Rick Lane) to clean and inspected my chimney. They did a super job in 4 degree weather inspecting and thoroughly cleaning my chimney. They arrived on time, called before hand to verify appointment, were very professional and efficient. I could not have expected better service or nicer people. I give them a 5 star for effort and professionalism. Steve K.
Dear Rick, I’d like to personally thank you and A-1 Chimney for resolving what had become, a chronic and stressful problem for me and my family. For 3 years we were unable to diagnose and fix a persistent leak around our stone chimney. The leak started soon after we completed a 2 story building addition abutting our existing stone fireplace. Our builder and his roofing people and 2 independent roof contractors we called subsequently, tried repeatedly, but couldn’t stop the leaking. We felt we were out of options and were considering tearing the chimney stone off when a friend suggested calling a chimney specialist rather than another roofer. We called A-1 Chimney and you responded promptly and quickly diagnosed the problem. You fixed the leak on your first visit. We sincerely thank you for the excellent service. Since our ongoing leak problem had been so stressful and potentially damaging, we’d like to have you inspect the chimney exterior and related roof flashing annually. That way, any needed preventative repairs can be done, hopefully avoiding a repeat of past problems. Sincerely, "

I have been a customer of Rick Lane’s, A-1 Chimney, for about 15 years and have been extremely pleased with his professionalism and service. He does a complete chimney inspection every year, makes any needed repairs, cleans our chimneys and gives us a complete written report. He is always punctual and leaves the fireplace areas without any trace of ash deposits. I would highly recommend his service.
